Infant perishes in Tagum City fire

A SEVEN-MONTH-OLD baby died in a fire on Wednesday afternoon, May 16, at Purok 9, Barangay San Miguel, Tagum City.

Police Regional Office (PRO)-Davao spokesperson Police Chief Inspector Milgrace Driz said the Tagum City Police Station received the fire alert 3:59 p.m. on May 16.

Based on the initial investigation, the house owned by one Larry Espinosa, 26, laborer, caught fire around 3 p.m. and was burned to the ground fast despite the arrival of the Bureau of Fire Protection of Tagum City because it was made of light materials.

Espinosa left his four children -- Laisa Jane, 4, Larry Jr., 2, Laisa Mae, 1, and seven-month-old Larra Mae unattended to buy some medicines.

When the fire broke out from still undetermined reason, a neighbor identified as Roldan Mabiscay scrambled to save the children, but only managed to save the elder three.

The two eldest siblings were unharmed while the third had to be brought to the Davao Regional Medical Center for burns.

Estimated damage was placed at P15,000, while cause of fire is still being investigated on.

Larra Mae's body was brought to the Rubio Funeral Services in Tagum while the family is being attended to by the barangay San Miguel council.
