ARTIFICIAL intelligence. We usually relate this with robots and robotics or we, sometimes, relate it to computers or software. Google, being that they are Google, is taking things a bit farther with artificial intelligence (AI) in a demo they did during the last Google I/O. It’s called Google Duplex. I saw that demo and I will say that I’m impressed.

With that kind of level of intelligence and performance from an AI, and if it is actually true, things are moving forward expeditiously in that front. This is a exciting for me and also scary. Will there be a time that we can’t recognize anymore if we’re talking to a bot or a real person. Real life personal assistants can become a thing of a by-gone era.

The first demo you saw in that video above, to me, demonstrated some form of decision-making ability as well. At some point when the receptionist at the salon explained to Google Duplex the conditions of the appointment Duplex was looking for. There were choices to be made during that call and Duplex actually made those choices. Amazing stuff.

Marques Brownlee explains well how I reacted to the demo when I first saw it.

At the end of all this, I wonder if we, humans, are ready for this kind of AI. Are we ready for AI that you won’t be distinguishable from normal human conversations? Are we ready for a human-like interaction with AI like what Duplex showed? Are we? Are you?
