Baguio inventor recognized for his Magichanic Oil

A BAGUIO boy scientist was recently named the best inventor in the utility model category of the National Invention Contest and Exhibits 2009 at the Philippine Trade Training Center under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

In response to the global challenges and environmental problems, Johnny N. Sy introduced an eco-friendly engine oil additive called Magichanic Oil, which can be used for all types of vehicles.

With this oil, drivers may apply less force on their accelerator pedals and yet maximize fuel efficiency and combustion for more power and up to 65 percent lesser emissions.

For his feat, Sy won a cash reward of P 100,000.

Sy introduced the Magichanic Oil into the market July 10, 2008 in Baguio City after over 20 years of research and experimentation.

At present, about 90 percent of auto supplies and repair shops in northern Luzon use Magichanic Oil.

Sy said his invention offers the four "Ps" for power, protection, performance and profitability which can overcome barriers to optimum engine performance like sludge, insolubles, oxidation and oil thickening.

Besides increasing mileage, Magichanic Oil also boosts engine power for stronger uphill climbs.

The invention also reduces friction on the engine components, minimal engine wear and tear, lowers engine temperatures and prolongs the durability of an engine.

It functions steadily at both low and high temperature conditions, Sy said.

According to him, Magichanic Oil provides a smoother dive and reduces vibrations, regardless of the vehicle's age.

The oil enhances lubricant fuel economy and reduces change oil frequency by 100 percent, thereby providing big savings and maintenance and fuel expenses and it increases the profit potential through improved engine performance.

"With our problems of climate change and global warming, the Magichanic Oil can help reduce pollution," Sy pointed out.

Jonathan Estacio, a taxi operator and driver in Baguio, said he had an extra mileage of 10,000 kilometers since he started using the invention, as reflected in mechanic's change oil logbook. He only needs to change oil at an average of two or three months instead of the usual monthly.

DOST-Cordillera Director Ben Ladilad said Sy is a pride of the region. He confirmed that they have conducted scientific tests and verified the originality of the invention.

"It confirms to our examination that technically improves the effectiveness to the engine," Ladilad said.

"I personally tested the efficiency of Magichanic Oil, I change oil after three years after I shifted to his invention," Ladilad added.

The DOST offered financial assistance to Sy to further improve his invention or to expand his business.

The Baguio City Council headed by Vice Mayor Daniel T. Fariñas passed Resolution No. 484, series of 2009 commending and congratulating Johnny N. Sy for his outstanding achievement for winning the National Invention Contest and Exhibit 2009.
