93 nabbed for Comelec gun ban in Western Visayas

A TOTAL of 93 persons were arrested for violation of Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban in Western Visayas from April 14 to May 21.

Police Regional Office (PRO)-Western Visayas public information officer Joem Malong said Tuesday, May 22, 12 explosives, 33 bladed weapons, and 250 firearms were recovered from separate police operations in the region as of 12 midnight Monday, May 21.

The police implemented Comelec gun ban due to the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan election.

For Bacolod City, 18 gun ban violators were reported since last month, with a confiscation of eight bladed weapons and 15 firearms. No explosives were seized.

Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) has arrested 29 violators, seized two explosives, eight bladed weapons, and 39 firearms.

In Aklan, eight persons were arrested for the same offense, with a recovery of seven bladed weapons and nine firearms.

Antique has nine violators, with a recovery of three bladed weapons and 27 firearms.

Eight violators were reported in Capiz with 96 firearms and one bladed weapon.

Iloilo province has 15 violators with a confiscation of three explosives and 52 firearms.

Iloilo City has five violators with a recovery of five bladed weapons and two firearms.

There was only one violator in Guimaras, with one bladed weapon and 10 firearms recovered.

Violators face charges for violation of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in relation to the Comelec gun ban.
