5 NPA attacks recorded in May

DESPITE a series of surrenders to authorities, the New People's Army (NPA) also bared the series of attacks it launched against the military particularly in Agusan and Bukidnon areas.

In a statement, the NPA said its Western Agusan del Norte-Agusan del Sur (Wanas) Subregional Command attacked the Philippine National Police-Regional Public Safety Batallion in Barangay Tungao, Butuan City, wounding a police official last May 15.

On May 14 however, NPA reported two deaths among its comrades in an encounter with the military in Barangay Sinakungan, Agusan del Sur.

Meanwhile, three subsequent encounters happened in Cabanglasan and San Fernando, Bukidnon from May 7, 8, and 10. The NPA claims the encounters led to the death of four military

It noted that during the election period, there have been no let-up of the operations initiated by the government troops.

"Ginakundena sa Bagong Hukbong Bayan sa North Central Mindanao Region (BHB-NCMR) ang rehimeng US-Rodrigo Duterte ug mga matinumanong sulugoon niining Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP) ug uban pang armadong pundok nga giderehean sa estado sa sustinido niining paglunsad og operasyong militar sa rehiyon, bisan pa man sa panahon sa Barangay Elections ug tradisyunal o relihiyosong aktibidad sa katawhan (We condemn the US-Rodrigo Duterte Regime, the AFP, PNP, and other armed groups for their nonstop combat operations in the region even during election period and religious events)," it says.

"Andam sa kanunay ang NPA-NCMR (North Central Mindanao Region) sa mamahimong paggrabe pa sa pagpangatake sa estado sa rebolusyonaryong kalihukan ug katawhan. Labaw pa niining gipalig-on ang rebolusyonaryong han-ay, sa militar man nga tahas niini o sa pulitika, aron mapakyas ang unsamang laraw sa estado batok sa interes sa katawhan sa rehiyon (The NPA-NCMR is always ready for these state attacks and we continue to let our guards up against the states' ill-interests to the people of the region)," it added.

Since January this year, surrenders among alleged NPA members have been prevalent. Just three days ago, an NPA member surrendered in Surigao del Norte, citing "hardships" as the reason for the surrender.
