THE Iloilo City Public Safety Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) and Local Economic and Enterprise Office (LEEO) have started clearing operations against obstructions at Iloilo Terminal Market commonly known as Super.

The clearing of sidewalks and roads around Super will last for one month to put order in the area, PSTMO head Jeck Conlu said.

“The City Government clears the sidewalks and roads because we have noticed that these are not properly define. We also clear the surroundings of Super so that customers and vendors could identify where are the loading, unloading and parking areas, and entrance and exit points,” Conlu said.

The orderly situation would encourage the costumers to buy goods in the market and would ease the heavy traffic during rush hours, he added.

Conlu said that maintaining the order at Super, among other public markets in the metropolis, remains to be a challenged.

The PSTMO together with LEEO will regularly deploy personnel who will ensure that market vendors will not obstruct the sidewalks.

“We are planning to do it whole year-round that is why we will create a team that will monitor every day to ensure that sidewalks and roads will not be obstructed,” Conlu said.

Conlu will discuss with Councilor R Leone Gerochi, chairman on committee on transportation and public utilities of City Council, the possible sanctions to penalize vendors who obstruct sidewalks and roads. (PR)
