Pangan: Preparing for School Year 2018-2019

WITH the mild protest of public school teachers for a salary increase faintly disappearing in the background, preparations are afoot in public schools particularly the Brigada Eskwela which involves mainly the cleaning and clearing of the school rooms and the premises.

The public school teachers, whom we consider modern-day heroes along with the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and the active soldiers, rightfully deserve increases in their take-home pays if only to recompense, albeit modestly, their hard work especially during elections which take away their rest and recreation periods. Not all of us can make sacrifices like the public school teachers and non-teaching personnel for that matter.

For those of us who have relatives or siblings for teachers can see or observe the trials, hardship and various challenges these souls go through their productive lives.

Therefore, any increment or changes in their pay would be most welcome, this the leadership in the present administration should seriously consider and act upon expeditiously.

Like the soldiers, members of the uniformed service and the Philippine National Police (PNP), the public school teachers are doing the government and the people good public service.

There may be bad eggs in their ranks but the good ones outweigh the rogue ones.

My sister Carmelita is a good example of a teacher who rose from the ranks through years of hardwork, constant researches and countless seminars, both here, out-of-town and even out of the country.

Obviously, she triumphed over all the challenges of her work designations: she later became principal and then division schools supervisor till her retirement from public school service and shifted to a more pressing challenge, that of being President of the Mabalacat City College.

She capped her academic pursuits with a PhD in Educational Management.

Also at Mabalacat City College, now known for several LET and broker examinations passers, a daughter Kristine, will try to follow the footsteps of her aunt Carmelita.

At the orientation of incoming freshmen last May 23, 2018, the parents were informed of the school's admission and guidance policies. As can be expected of tyros, they listened attentively to the speakers, especially on disciplinary actions on offenses and the implementing rules of RA 10931 or Quality Access to Tertiary Education which provided info on the financial assistance to qualified students of local universities and colleges and SUCs.

Mabalacat City College, by the way, has received its Certificate of Recognition from the Commission on Higher Education the first in the province of Pampanga.
