POLICE authorities identified one of the four assailants of Buenavista, Bohol Mayor Ronald Lowell Tirol, who was shot dead inside the cockpit arena in Barangay Asinan on Sunday afternoon, May 27.
Central Visayas Police Regional Director Robert Quenery identified the suspect as Elmer Abanda Melencion alias "Eti Melencion".
Melencion was with four other unidentified male companions during Sunday's attack on Tirol.
Quenery said Melencion was one of the suspects who tried to kill Tirol in 2014 inside the cockpit arena in Clarin, Bohol.
Tirol's bodyguard, who identified the gunman, was with the mayor at the time.
Quenery said they are looking into business, politics and personal relationship as the possible motives behind the attack.
The police official sees no need to create a special investigation task group to look into Tirol's case.
A team from the Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco) recovered seven pieces of .45 pistol fired cartridges and one .9mm fired cartridge in the crime scene.
Tirol succumbed to gunshot wounds in the head. He was rushed to Inabanga District Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
