Poll offices get one more week to submit report

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) extended the deadline for the submission of the local poll offices’ report on the voter turnout for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) election from May 28 to June 8.

Provincial Election Supervisor Marco Lionel Castillano said that in the May 2016 presidential and local elections, they were able to report a 1.6 million voter turnout immediately because the elections then were automated.

Since the May 14, 2018 barangay and SK election was manual, they still have to consolidate all reports from the city, municipal and provincial poll offices before they can submit a report to Comelec Manila.

“In the recent election, the registered voters were almost 2.9 million and in every election, usually the turnout is from 80 to 85 percent,” he said.

Castillano added that their reports in the previous elections were completed right away because aside from being automated, they only had to indicate how many male and female voters actually voted.

This time, they also have to specify the number of voters who are senior citizens, persons with disability (PWDs) and indigenous peoples (IP).

For the SK election, they will also report how many voters aged 15 to 17 and voters aged 18 to 30 voted.

Meanwhile, the poll offices have already paid the teachers from the Department of Education (DepEd) who served during the recent election.

The chairman of the Board of Election Inspectors (BEI) received P7,000 while the members got P6,000 each. (EOB)
