Ex-cop nabbed for drugs

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- A former police officer who went absent without leave was arrested by police authorities during an anti-illegal drug operation conducted in Barangay Malabanias, Angeles City recently.

Police Regional Officer III Director Chief Superintendent Amador Corpus said that the suspect identified as Jorge Harrison Carin, 32, was a former police officer 1 before he was dropped from the Philippine National Police (PNP) rolls in 2013.

Since his removal from police ranks, Carin was allegedly involved in illegal drug activities and became a high-value target of the Angeles City police, said Corpus in a press statement.

After a series of monitoring and surveillance, Corpus said joint operatives of the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit III, Angeles City Police Drug Enforcement Unit and Regional Intelligence Unit III set-up a drug bust in a hotel in this city where Carin positively sold a sachet of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as “shabu.”

Authorities immediately arrested Carin and confiscated four small sachets of shabu, two small sachets of dried marijuana leaves, a caliber .45 Armscor pistol, several ammunitions, various drug paraphernalia and P1,000 marked money used in the operation.

Cases for Violation of Sections 5 and 11 of Republic Act (RA) 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act and RA 10591 or Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunitions are being prepared against the Carin for filing at the Angeles City Prosecutor’s Office.

Meanwhile, Corpus said that the arrest of Carin manifests the strong commitment of the PNP in arresting drug personalities, especially high-profile suspects, government officials and police officers.

“We will continue to conduct anti-drug operations and put behind bars all involved in the illegal drug trade targeting especially those included in our list. We will have no let-up in eradicating illegal drugs in the region,” he said.
