A 14-YEAR-OLD girl survived after she was stabbed in the stomach by an opposing gang member on Humay-Humay Road in Lapu-Lapu City last Monday night.
Investigation showed that the victim was walking with her fellow gangsters before the attack happened at past 8 p.m. No other minors were harmed.
The incident happened in less than 24 hours after a 16-year-old boy was shot by rival gang members in Barangay Poblacion, Minglanilla last Sunday night.
Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Manuel Abrugena had told the lower units to intensify their patrolling to prevent gang violence.
In the Minglanilla incident, the victim was sitting on a bench with another minor when three gang members (ages 16 to 17) approached him. They told him to leave the place, but they shot him before he could walk at past 9 p.m.
The boy was hit twice in his neck and left ear. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The suspects fled after the incident.
In Barangay Valencia, Carcar City, on the same day, a 17-year-old boy was shot dead by his uncle and 15-year-old cousin. The incident was not gang-related, though.
Abrugena said he had instructed Minglanilla Police Chief Verniño Noserale to check the places where these gangs often converged.
Noserale identified the town plaza and the public cemetery in Barangay Poblacion Ward III as the common meeting places of the young gangsters.
He had talks with village chairmen and fraternies, persuading them to help the police in maintaining the town’s peace.
Abrugena had ordered his police station chiefs to monitor schools and prevent hazing activities. (KAL)
