Task group goes after Bohol mayor’s gunman, also tied to 2014 murder attempt

THE Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 formed a special investigation task group (SITG) to track down the personalities suspected of killing Buenavista, Bohol Mayor Ronald Tirol.

Senior Supt. Dennis Agustin said that the provincial director of Bohol will serve as commander of the SITG that will go after the persons who shot and killed the mayor inside a cockpit arena last Sunday.

“There’s still an ongoing manhunt that’s why we created the SITG as there was an intelligence report in our follow-up operation,” said Agustin, deputy regional director for operations.

PRO 7 Director Chief Supt. Robert Quenery identified one of the suspected gunmen as Elmer Abanda Melencion alias “Eti Melencion.” Melencion was allegedly one of the suspects in an attempt to kill the mayor in 2014, Quenery said in an earlier interview.

Agustin hopes the police will arrest Melencion and his cohorts alive so that the mastermind will also be arrested.

“The only thing I could say is that he should enjoy these remaining days that he’s free because our troops are continuously looking for him,” Agustin said. (JOB)
