Indigenous People of Hinoba-an town avail health services

ABOUT 600 Indigenous People (IP) from the municipality of Hinoba-an availed of free medical consultation on May 24 during the “Hugpong sang mga Tumandok” at the town gym.

The program was spearheaded by the Department of Health (DOH) Western Visayas in partnership with the National Commission for Indigenous People, the municipality of Hinoba-an and other local and national agencies.

Fifty persons availed of free dental services from the dental clinic on wheels, DOH-Western Visayas IP focal person Kristine Solas said.

Hinoba-an Mayor Ernesto Estrao led the distribution of 300 pieces of water jugs and family packs containing towel, toothpaste, soap shampoo and others in the activity that was held for the first time in town.

In his speech, he stressed the responsiveness of the government that initiated the program and called on the IPs to unite to fast-track projects.

"The government is working and reaching out to you," he told the various tribe belonging to the Bukidnon-Magahat.

Also, the IPs availed of the corn seeds for planting and used clothing from local donors.

Solas said the "Hugpong" is an annual activity the DOH-Western Visayas holds twice a year in two selected provinces in Western Visayas.

She said the program will be turned over to the regions' provinces next year for them to sponsor and initiate.

Heads of various national government agencies, local officials were also present and campaigned for their agency's plans, programs, and services through speeches and information, education and communication materials. (PR)
