THE Iloilo City Public Safety and Management Office (PSTMO) is set to create a task force that will monitor the situation of the metropolis during the opening of classes on June 4.
The team will be in-charge of securing the roads going to schools, re-painting of pedestrian lanes, and ensuring enough police security in schools.
"Mayor Joe III Espinosa wants to make sure that there will be no incidents or crimes on the day of the opening of classes, that is why we will ensure that our students and even their parents or guardians who bring them to schools are also safe," Conlu said.
Conlu said the only challenge is the unfinished road constructions, which will affect public convenience near some schools.
The PSTMO foresees that there will be traffic congestion during rush hours.
"I will write a letter addressed to our district engineer and DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways) regional director to ask them to compel the contractors to finish the road projects, which are already past the due date. We will also ask them to tell the contractors to work double time or 24/7 even during Sundays so that they can finish the work," Conlu said.
Conlu also asked public utility jeepney drivers and private car owners to follow city ordinances, including proper loading and unloading areas and avoid on-road parking, to avoid delays. (PR)
