Female jail dorm remains drug free

THE surprise implementation of “Oplan Galulgad” inside the female dorm of the Baguio City Jail turned out negative.

On May 29, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in the Cordillera conducted a surprise inspection inside the different cells of the female dorm for illegal drugs and contrabands. The dorm was cleared.

Female Dorm Jail Warden Senior Inspector April Rose Ayang-wa also said that all the 109 present inmates were drug free based on the surprise test by PDEA operatives.

Most of the present females deprived of liberty were detained for cases involving the use of illegal drugs and estafa.

Ayang-wa added the BJMP will continue to implement developmental programs and recreational activities for the female inmates despite being heavily populated with 99 persons per cell.

"Although our female dorm should only accommodate a maximum of 50 persons, the present number of detainees is at 99 persons or half more than what the United Nations Standards require. But due to their size and built as Filipinos, all of the detainees enjoy the use of bed bunks," said Ayangwa.

The city jail was the recipient of the Best New Concept Production Award from Aliw Awards Foundation on December 19, 2017 for the Anatomiya ng Babaeng Pugita Play.

It also received for the second time the Department of Health Red Orchid Awardee in 2017 for being a 100 percent smoke free facility, aside from a plaque of recognition from the City Government for its support and commitment in sharing their services during the Pasadang Pambarangay.

The Baguio City Jail have sustained its quarterly Regional awards as the Best City Jail Implementer since 2016 up to the 4th Quarter of 2017.
