10 on DOLE list from Mindanao

HALF of the top 20 companies found to be employing labor-only contracting practices are from Mindanao, according to the Department of Labor and Employment in Davao Region (DOLE 11).

In a statement, the DOLE regional office said it continues to conduct rotational inspections in different companies in the region. On top of this, the companies are also encouraged by the government agency to voluntarily regularize their employees.

Of the 10 firms based in Mindanao, one is is Davao region. Franklin Baker Incorporated, located in Darong, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, employs around 3,400 contractual employees based on the list.

The DOLE central office released on Monday, May 28, a list of companies nationwide that were found to be practicing the labor-only contracting scheme, which is prohibited.

The business establishments in Davao Region had earlier been noted by Dole 11 to be obedient and are the ones voluntarily ending employee contractualization even before Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III released the Department Order on Contracting and Subcontracting (DO 174) March of last year.

In an earlier published report late last year, almost 5,000 workers from 38 different companies in Davao Region had been set to be regularized. These companies are primarily into manufacturing, agriculture, retail, and services.

Through the Labor Law Compliance System unit of DOLE Davao Region, they do a series of validations to ensure compliance of the involved establishments on regularizing their employees.
