THE Davao City Mayor's Office (CMO) started the distribution of free school supplies to parents who seek help from the office since Thursday, May 31.

The kits, according to a Davao City Information Office report, will benefit some 5,000 children.

The distribution of free school supplies is under Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio’s education support program, one of her 10 priorities under the Byaheng DO30 agenda.

Lawyer Raul Nadela Jr., the mayor's chief-of-staff, in the same CIO report, said that this is the second year the office distributed school kits.

“Mayor Inday decided to give school kits to those who are in need,” Nadela said.

Duterte-Carpio decided to provide school kits because of the numerous letters she received from parents who sought her help for their children’s school supplies.

Nadela said the distribution covers all those who are enrolled either in private or public schools and does not consider the financial status of the parents.

“It does not matter if the children are studying in private schools, as long as the parents will fall in line for the school supplies, we will give them the kits,” Nadela said.

The kits consist of six notebooks, pencils, sharpener, crayons and papers.

On Thursday, mothers flocked in front of City Hall, bringing with them their child’s identification card, their own identification card and a letter addressed to the mayor. These requirements must be shown to get a green slip from the CMO.

Those who obtained green slips will then claim the kits.

It can be observed on Thursday that some parents brought more than three kits when they exited City Hall. (KVC)
