Editorial: Probe report soon

THE investigating committee tasked by Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. to probe on the controversial construction of the Negros First Animal Hub at Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City is expected to submit its report in the coming weeks.

According to Provincial Administrator Lucille Gelvolea, in an interview with local reporters, the panel is set to forward their report to the governor on June 15.

She said that would be enough time for the panel to make the investigation and submit their report.

But Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said Wednesday that the investigation has not started yet.

Lacson earlier met with lawyer Mary Ann Lamis of the Provincial Legal Office, who heads the investigating panel, and that the latter told him they couldn’t start the probe yet unless the governor issues a certain action.

It was unclear if what the action is.

Lamis has been stressing there will be no whitewash on the investigation.

Provincial government officials have been denying any knowledge of the construction of the building which is already about 80 percent complete.

The controversy on the construction of the Animal Hub, which didn’t undergo the bidding process and has no building permit, has been discovered in April this year following a complaint.

Again, the contractor has not been named, even though the supplier already came out in the open and took full responsibility.

Gelvolea said the Provincial Government will have to wait for the report of the investigation panel before their next move, whether the structure will be demolished or not.
