Kidapawan chess event gets underway

BIGGER cash prizes are at stake to the winners when the 2010 Kidapawan Open Chess Championship gets underway from February 5 to 7 at the Kidapawan City Convention Center in Kidapawan City.

The three-day event is organized by the Kidapawan Chess Club Incorporated, in cooperation with the City Government of Kidapawan and Batch 85-Notre Dame of Kidapawan Boys and Girls HS Alumni Association Incorporated.

Organizers recently extended invitation to Davao Region players through National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) regional director James Infiesto.

In the invitation letter furnished to Sun.Star Davao, organizers said they would limit entries to 100 only. Thus, interested participants are encouraged to register early and get a chance to win the top purse of P15,000 at stake for the champion.

The runner-up will receive P10,000 while the next two placers will get P5,000 and P3,000, respectively. The fifth to 10th placers will go home with P1,000 each along with the best kiddie, junior and best female players.

Registration fee is P300. Fee for Kidapawan-based players is P200 while junior and kiddie players can sign up with a minimal fee of P100.

Organizers also require a bond of P100 from all players. The same amount will be returned to them after the tournament unless they default their games.

Deadline of registration is on February 5. Interested participants may visit the Kidapawan Chess Club Incorporated, c/o Natalia T. Olay, 59 Quirino Drive, Kidapawan City or contact Doctor Ted P. Calica (0917-7186163), or Ramil Deldo (0918-6211418). (MLSA)
