Mendoza: SM’s 60 years of providing every Filipino’s needs

SM has always been part of every Filipino’s household for six decades now. It has been a go-to place whether for needs or wants.

In Davao Region, the chain of malls has been looking into new homes outside of Davao City, which already have two – one in the city’s southern part and another one in the north. It has been the goal of the Henry Sy-led company to bring quality service and goods closer to all.

As it celebrates its 60th awesome year in the retail industry, a big gathering was made last May 25 in SM Lanang Premier. The #AweSM Weekend Party, which was the celebration of the company’s supermalls in Mindanao, was highlighted by a fashion show led by Presidential Daughter Kitty Duterte.

Joining the lovely youngest of President Rodrigo R. Duterte were SM’s brand ambassadors Hideo Muraoka and the Perkins Twins, together with Mutya ng Dabaw 2018 Shellah Faye Juntilla and several young models of Davao.

Apart from the parade of the most fabulous and fashionable pieces that SM Department Store and various mall tenants got to offer, the event also served as a platform to showcase the magnificent voices of the Dabawenyo singing trio Zhalia, composed of Jozelle Tacsanan, ShairaRica Opsimar, and Julia Mica Serad. They opened the party with their cover of Meghan Trainor’s “Better When I’m Dancin’”.

In his opening remarks, SM Lanang Premier’s mall manager Engr. Jonathan Nick Santos revealed that there is so much in store for everybody until October in all SM branches, especially that 2018 marks a milestone for them.

“Watch out for awesome deals!” he said.

Last May 21, the 60th anniversary celebration of SM started officially by lighting up the iconic Mall of Asia globe in Metro Manila. It signaled the beginning of 60 exciting themed visual attractions, fun experiences, and interactive activities for their shoppers.

What started out as a sari-sari store is now an empire that has expanded to property development (SM Prime Holdings) and banking (Banco de Oro).

With close to a thousand retail stores, 70 malls in the Philippines and seven malls in China, SM is surely a success story worth sharing and emulating. As what the SM supermalls tagline says, the company truly “got it all for you.”
