PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) chief Oscar Albayalde said on Monday, June 4, that the incidents perpetrated by motorcylcle-riding suspects have “drastically” decreased in the past seven months.

“Yung MRS (motorcycle-riding-suspects) na sinasabi natin has gone down drastically since the time na October 5 last year ‘yung unang tinanggal sa atin ang war on drugs then binalik sa atin on December 5, 2017 nakita natin na bumaba ‘yung incidents of MRS,” he said.

From October 11 to May 21, the PNP recorded 880 persons who were killed by MRS while 47 others were injured.

Of the killings, 291 have either been cleared or solved which means the suspects were either arrested or killed and the motive was established.

The PNP started recording MRS-perpetrated incidents after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered them in October 2017 to stop participating in the campaign against illegal drugs and focus on reducing crimes and policing their ranks.

“There are still incidents kaya nga ang gusto natin dito is the maximum deployment of our personnel on the streets and they have to maximize their efforts on Oplan Sita and checkpoint operations,” said Albayalde.

“We want to maximize deployment nila kaya nga ang sinusunod natin dito is the 85-15 policy, 85 percent nandun sa labas sa lansangan at 15 percent lang ang naiiwan sa kanilang mga opisina para ma-address ‘yung problema sa MRS,” he added.

Albayalde said they are also looking at replicating nationwide the operational plan they implemented in Central Luzon (Region 3) to combat MRS perpetrated incidents.

“I would just like to add isa sa pinaplano natin dyan we started that in Region 3 in 2012 ‘yung mga sticker nilalagay natin sa motorcycle and we are planning to revive and improve ‘yung sticker system sa mga motorsiklo na na-inspect natin and kung maganda resulta nyan sa Region 3 it will be launched nationwide,” he said.

“Kung ikaw na-inspect ka na sa Bulacan kapag nag-travel ka going to Pampanga makita nila na once upon a time na-inspect ka sa Bulacan so basically alam nila na na-checkpoint at nasita ka,” he added. (SunStar Philippines)
