Drug surrenderer in Arayat nabbed

ARAYAT -- A drug personality who surrendered to the government under Oplan Double Barrel was arrested by local police here after positively peddling methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) during a drug bust.

This town’s chief of police Superintendent Dale Soliba said the suspect identified as Fortunato Castro, 60, was arrested in Barangay San Nicolas in this town.

Castro was allegedly under police monitoring and surveillance after receiving reports that he continued his involvement in prohibited drugs and went back to his illegal vice.

Soliba also said that while Castro surrendered to authorities, he did not undergo rehabilitation and reformation at the local government-sponsored wellness center, or any centers.

Confiscated from the suspect’s possession and control during the drug bust were three small sachets of suspected shabu and P500 bill marked money used in the operation.

The arrested suspect is still in the custody of Arayat police for documentation and filing of appropriate charges. Recovered pieces of evidence were submitted to the PNP Crime Laboratory III in Camp Olivas, in the City of San Fernando for examination.

The arrested suspect will be facing cases for Violation of Sections 5 and 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
