Baguio students dominate entrance exams

THE Philippines Science High School (PSHS) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) bared the results of the entrance examination for incoming freshmen that was conducted last year.

Ninety graduating elementary pupils from the region are eligible to enroll in the elite science and technology (S and T) school for this coming school year 2010-2011. There were 883 examinees from the Cordillera region who took the examinations that were given last November 7, 2009 at the University of Cordillera (UC) High School department, Hamada Road, Baguio City.

Eighty-four percent or 76 of the successful examinees come from Baguio City.

Other provincial passers are from Abra-2, Apayao-1, Benguet-3, Ifugao-3, and Mountain Province-5.

The 90 pupils will be divided into three sections at 30 pupils per class.

PSHS-CAR was opened this June 2009 and is temporarily housed at the Baguio City National High School-San Vicente Annex.

The list of successful examines could be obtained at the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in La Trinidad, Benguet or at the PSHS-CAR office.

The PSHS system is an attached agency of the DOST. It was established through Republic Act (RA) 3661 and is mandated to offer on a free scholarship basis secondary course with emphasis on subjects pertaining to science with the end view of preparing its students for careers in science and technology.

Scholarship privileges include free tuition fee, free loan of textbooks, monthly stipend, uniform, transportation and living allowances are also given to those belonging to low income groups. (John Santiago)
