San Carlos SK president is now provincial federation leader

SAN Carlos City Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation President Pocholo Yuvienco was elected Wednesday, June 6, as president of the SK Provincial Federation in an election conducted at L'Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City.

All 31 SK presidents of the towns and cities in the province were all present during the election, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Provincial Director Carmelo Orbista said.

The DILG conducted the SK Federation election that commenced the two-day orientation for the SK presidents in the province.

Yuvienco, who got 16 votes, was opposed by Paolo Villanueva of Toboso, who got 15 votes.

Other SK Provincial Federation Officials elected Wednesday were Annette Gatuslao of Himamaylan as vice president; Ma. Delmar Mariposque of Silay City, secretary; Jeorgelyn Largado of Kabankalan City, treasurer; Vicxee Tejones of Escalante City, auditor; Nonee Molejon of Sipalay City, public relations officer; and Khemmer Mamon of San Enrique, sergeant at arms.

The oath of office of the newly elected SK Provincial Federation officials was administered by Talisay City Punong Barangay Artistotle Tuvilla of Barangay 10.

Yuvienco is a Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management graduate of San Beda College and now helps his family run a bakeshop business in San Carlos City.

He said he will establish the Provincial Youth Development Council and focus on the issues of the youth today.

"As a team with all SK presidents, we will produce a plan to cater to the needs of the youth," Yuvienco said.

The newly elected SK officials will assume office on July 1.

Orbista, meanwhile, said the venue of the SK election and orientation was chosen by the Liga Ng Mga Barangay (Barangay League).

When asked about the independence from politics of the election held Wednesday, Orbista said, "I have no idea, we only conduct elections. I am not from here so I am not very familiar with political parties here in Negros Occidental".

He said the SK allowed them to use cellular phones but it must be in silent mode so that they would not disrupt the sessions.

The Barangay League also paid for the fees amounting to P3,500.00 each SK president for the said two-day orientation seminar, Orbista added.
