A WEEK-LONG celebration dubbed as “Himugso” is set by the City Government for Cagayan de Oro's 68th Charter Day on June 11 to 17.

It will open with a tour at Xavier University's Museo de Oro, Capitol University's Museum of Three Cultures, Liceo de Cagayan's La Castilla Lifestyle Museum, and the City Museum with the Historical Commission for students and government employees leading the charge.

On June 12, a flag raising ceremony will take place at Kiosko Kagawasan, Divisoria to mark the Independence Day, to be followed by the city heritage sites’ walking tour.

A Primer on the Local History of Cagayan de Oro will be launched on June 13, along with the Hala Kumbira, featuring Cagayan de Oro's heritage food, and the Himugso Cultural Show.

On June 15, Mayor Oscar Moreno will deliver his Annual Report for 2018 to mark the City Charter Day.

The celebrations will end on June 17 with a Freedom Run.

Already, City Administrator Teddy Sabuga-a said security measure is up after the arrest of a Moro couple allegedly involved with ISIS-inspired activities.

"Nalipay ta nga na-apprehend gyud nila. But usual, we are prepared, naa nay instruction si mayor moreno nga ang incident command team is activated, since atong ordination na activity, Level 3 atong security since ato," Sabuga-a said.

"Hopefully ang importante pa gihapon diri is cooperation sa matag Kagay-anon nga kung naay katingad-an motabang gyud ta pag-report," he added.

Sabuga-a however said there is nothing to worry about as he urged Kagay-anons to have fun during the events.

"We are hoping na this time mahinumduman especially sa atong kabataan unsa kadtong mga butang sa kasaysayan na angay mapanaminan for us to develop and look forward. Ang paglantaw sa kagahapon, mahibaw-an nimo unsa ka karon, ug ang karon pwede makalatid sa imong umaabot na ugma," he said.
