Nocppo probes ‘ambush’ on former Moises Padilla councilor

THE Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) is investigating the alleged ambush incident that happened to former Councilor Ian Villaflor of Moises Padilla in the province last Thursday at La Castellana town.

Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil Jr., provincial director of Nocppo, said on Friday, that there has been no official report yet from La Castellana Municipal Station about the incident. But, he assured that a proper investigation will be conducted.

Castil said he already assigned personnel to check the place of the incident as well as to handle the case.

Villaflor, in a phone interview with SunStar yesterday, said he was on his way home around 8:30 p.m. when unidentified men fired at his vehicle at Barangay Cabacungan. He was with his driver and security when the incident happened.

They were all unharmed but his car had four bullet holes particularly on the passenger seat.

The assailants, whom he claimed were armed with long firearms, really targeted him, Villaflor said.

He said they tried to chase the assailants but they failed.

Villaflor said he did not immediately report the incident to the police as he also feared for his security. However, he is scheduled to go to the police station today (June 9).

He said politics behind the alleged ambush.

“It was the first time that it happened to me but I even started receiving threats when I joined the politics,” he said.

Villaflor said he ran for the mayoralty position in 2016 but lose to Moises Padilla Mayor Magdaleno Peña.

He was also active in the recent barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections during the campaign period.
