Going Wolverine: DJs of a Wild Breed Part 2

MENTION Wolverine and immediately the X-Men series comes to mind. I'm not stranger to this Marvel Comics cartoon character and 20th Century Fox film superhero, thanks to my son John Peter for whom I bought a Wolverine toy back in the early days of his childhood. Wolverine in his yellow and blue outfit covering his adamantium-laced skeletal structure with three long retractable bone claws protruding out of each blue-gloved hand, as the story goes, was pitted with the likes of the Incredible Hulk, demons and even the formidable Count Dracula. Wolverine reputedly ran with wolves in the forest and hunted like these wild beasts.

Wolverine is a human mutant, a genetic deviation from the norm, endowed with superhuman strength and great self-healing powers. Provoke him to anger and all hell breaks loose when those bony claws make their sudden appearance, swing in the air and strike their target, leaving a bloody mess. I mention Wolverine because certain situations in life have this "Wolverine effect" on people. Cases of dishonesty, injustice and other human misdemeanors tend to bring out the worst in people and drive them wild with that intense human emotion called rage.

It is indeed a wild, wild world as what Marc Anthony Carikitan aka DJ Prince of Wild FM Bacolod discovered when he was then a working student in his college days. The money he worked so hard for to pay for his school fees was stolen at the workplace. Such a situation can make any person go berserk and we can only guess what happened afterwards.

Sometimes, a very minor offense such as a traffic altercation can bring about road rage on a busy highway and have a tragic ending for the involved motorists. Last January 19, 2010 at around 6:20 a.m., I heard DJ Rod Simon (Julius Ulgasan in real life) say live on air "Sa mga drivers, ingat sa pagmamaneho, 'tol." This reminder to drive carefully stems from Rod Simon's personal aversion for traffic violations. As what he observed, sometimes the red light is already on but the jeepney drivers still make a go for the other side of the intersection, a very dangerous thing to do under the circumstances.

For DJ Mystica, what gets her "wild" are stories that are simply not true about her person. This happens to people with the best intentions but who get misinterpreted by people who are so judgmental, even if they haven't gathered enough facts to support their statements. Back in 2008, I had my own bitter taste of this kind of situation which really put my patience to the test. The good news is that I was able to contain whatever beastly instinct remained in my amygdala, the kind that modern man inherited from our primitive ancestors.

And how about DJ Wild Jenny? What could possibly transform her from a cute and harmless little pussycat to a fierce lurching tigress? To this, she has to say, "I can't stand rude, opinionated, mayabang at maiingay na mga tao. I snap easily to unsolicited advice." So in her company, better watch your language, otherwise there might be a "beast war" that may arise under such circumstances.

The last say on the topic goes to Wild FM Bacolod's Station Manager Mr Henry Claridad. It was on a Christmas Eve in the past when Sir Henry was working as a spinner that the "Wolverine effect" threatened to take hold. He expected to be relieved by 9 pm so he could go home and have a nice celebration. To Sir Henry's great consternation however, the reliever was an hour late and this delay greatly disrupted Sir Henry's plans for the evening.

From this experience we can see that being on time for one's board work helps a great deal in creating a peaceful atmosphere in the workplace. Promptness of employees leads to efficiency in carrying out their duties and responsibilities and enables a company to meet its desired goals and objectives within a specific time frame. As the saying goes, time is gold.
