Pangan: Testimonials of excellence and honesty

WE ARE elated over acts of excellence and seasonal honesty in different settings and time.

One such display of excellence occurred at the Mabalacat City College headed by my sister Carmelita Sotto, PhD. A certificate of appreciation was given to the College on last June 5 at the Park Inn by Radisson at Clark.

It read: This Certificate of Appreciation is being awarded the Mabalacat City College for honing students who can be role models in balancing academic performance, leadership and social responsibility as exemplified by the nomination for the 57th Search for the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines and signed by Leo Benitez, Chairperson, TOSP Region III and Executive Committee and Vice President, International Group

Philippines Inc.

Said issuance is a testimony to the excellent upbringing of the city college students where they are trained to imbibe in themselves the best morals and academic excellence over and above other local colleges and universities.

I find it hard therefore to hear that my sister, presently heading the college as its President, may be encountering hurdles towards her reappointment for another term of four years unless two lawyers who are viciously aiming for the top post will have their way of stealing the top post from her who has worked very hard and long to make MCC at par, if not better than other LUCs in the area, achieving recognition from the

CHED and overriding silent protests from disgruntled faculty members. I see the reason why they are restless: they disfavor the norm of discipline and self-abnegation of my sister since they were pampered the wrong way by her predecessor.

One aspirant-lawyer was unceremoniously eased out of the college for a serious reason.

Another lawyer who has been salivating for so long to occupy the college top post has reportedly signed with the Civil Service Commission a perpetual commitment not to occupy a government position but look at him now: he even handles several posts in the local government unit. Talk of bias!

By the way, one student of MCC who has gained distinction and plaudits is Oliver Manarang who graduated Summa Cum Laude and now teaches at a private school.

Singular act of honesty. A crew of a fastfood outlet located in Dau gained the admiration and respect of an American expatriate when Jason Maclean left a bag at the dining facility when he and his family left after dining.

James Michael M. Quito saw the bag containing valuables and several identification cards and cash, held on to it to the detriment of members of the Salisi Gang and promptly turned it over to the management.

A member of Maclean's family came and retrieved the bag with all its contents intact. That's honesty, pure and simple!
