STEPHEN Loman successfully defended his bantamweight title after earning a decision win against Frans Mlambo in the main event of Brave Combat Federation 13: Europe Evolution in Belfast, Northern Ireland Saturday evening.
Loman fought back after a near knock out by Mlambo in the first round who was poised to finish the Baguio City fighter in their rematch two years in the making.
The former University of the Cordilleras student and member of Team Lakay with his improvd ground game grinded it out in the third round who nearly got the finish via ground and pound although Mlambo looked to got himself back into the fight in the fourth round but for the former IMMAF world champion was unable counter Loman’s attack.
Loman was accompanied by his mother who has travelled alongside him to Belfast to witness the historic championship title defense.
"It is a great opportunity to defend the championship in Europe. The world is becoming aware about the growth of Mixed Martial Arts in Philippines. It matters a lot to be the champion of Brave Combat Federation. Team Lakay and Mark Sangiao made a huge difference in my career," said Loman.
Loman's victory marks his 10th win against two loses and his fight straight since yielding to Rex de Lara in January 2016.
Among his noted victory include highly touted Mark Abelardo, Mlambo and a first round technical knockout against Gurdashan Mangat in November last year that earned him the vacant bantamweight title of the Bahrain based MMA promotions.
Loman made history as the youngest and only fighter from Philippines to have defended his championship in Europe.
In the co-main event, Norman Parke saved the night for Northern Ireland when he defeated Myles Price by unanimous decision in his Brave Combat Federation debut. Parke and Pryce had fought previously in 2010, with Parke winning via submission. (Roderick Osis)
