Killer of businessman charged

A MURDER case is now being lodged against the brother-in-law of a businessman who killed him on Wednesday in Barangay Nazareth in Cagayan de Oro City.

Senior Police Officer 1 Francisco Granada, investigator of Police Station 9 in Barangay Macasandig, told Sun.Star Superbalita that murder charges have already been filed Friday against Antonieto Barela, 44, for killing his brother-in-law, Marcelino Raflores, 49, married, a resident of 11-21st Nazareth Sts., of Cagayan de Oro City.

Barela reportedly killed Raflores on Wednesday afternoon after a heated argument. The victim succumbed to 12 stab wounds.

Raflores owned the Oro Garments Supply and was the husband of Barela's sister Regina, 49.

Regina reportedly left Raflores a few months back due to his womanizing habit though the former is still the one managing their business. Regina hired Barela as her tailor.

Granada said Barela has always seen Raflores abusing his sister who always cried because of her marital problems. During the incident, Raflores was at the garments store and saw Barela carrying their sewing machines. Raflores thought Barela would steal the sewing machines so he confronted him, which resulted to a heated argument and the subsequent stabbing.

Raflores was brought to Maria Reyna Hospital but was declared dead on arrival while Barela voluntarily surrendered to police authorities after the incident, including the 12-inch knife he used in stabbing the victim. He is now detained at the Maharlika Detention Cell. (SVB)
