Comelec staff gunned down in Batangas

A COMMISSION on Elections (Comelec) employee in Mabini, Batangas was gunned down by motorcycle-riding assailants on Monday evening, June 11, a police official said Tuesday.

Calabarzon Police spokesperson Superintendent Chitadel Gaoiran said Noel Alvarez Miralles, 53, a resident of Barangay Dumantay in Batangas City, was shot dead while waiting for a ride home in front of Citimart-Bauan in Barangay 4 Poblacion around 6:10 p.m. Monday.

She said the gunmen fled towards the town of San Pascual on board a black motorcycle.

Gaoiran said Miralles was pronounced dead on arrival at the Bauan General Hospital.

The motive of the killing has yet to be determined.

Comelec Batangas election supervisor Gloria Petallo condemned the killing of Miralles, who had been an employee of the agency for 20 years.

"We demand speedy justice for Noel. We call on the authorities for the speedy arrest of Noel's killer or killers," she said. (SunStar Philippines)
