A POLICEMAN escape unscathed in an ambush in Zamboanga del Norte province, the police said Tuesday, June 12.
Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened around 6:30 a.m. Monday in New Dapitan village, Gutalac.
She identified the would-be victim as Police Officer 2 Rey Saladaga, 38, of the Gutalac Municipal Police Station, who was driving his motorcycle en route to attend Monday’s flag ceremony from Dew Dapitan when fired upon by two unidentified gunmen upon reaching the spillway of the same village.
Galvez said that when Saladaga reached the spillway of the same village, he was fired upon by unidentified gunmen. He managed to pull over and returned fire prompting the suspects to flee towards the grassy cliff and escape.
She said investigation continues in a bid to identify the suspects behind the incident. (SunStar Philippines)
