Suspect in slay of 3 siblings to undergo drug, psychiatric tests

CALATRAVA Mayor Araceli Somosa said the suspect in the killing of the three siblings in Barangay Marcelo of the town will undergo psychiatric and drug tests.

Somosa said they wanted to know the real state of mind of the suspect John Mark Melibo, 21, to determine and guide the authorities on what to do with him to avoid the same incident in the future.

On June 9, Melibo, who was allegedly suffering from a mental illness, slashed to death his three younger brothers inside their house after the victims failed to prepare him food when he arrived home.

He said he was allegedly told by Poseidon, god of the sea, to kill his siblings.

The victims are set to be buried on Friday, June 15, at the Minapasok Public Cemetery as their mother has already arrived from Manila where she was working.

Somosa said that they already requested Dr. Jocelyn Gauzon Gayares of the Philippine Mental Association to conduct psychiatric and drug tests on Melibo.

Somosa also said the municipal government provided the burial assistance to the victims.

Some of the neighbors of Melibo claimed that he is a member of a cult but many said that he became mentally ill because of poverty and was heavily affected when their parents separated.
