Sanchez, Pedroza win Cebu Epic 2018

CEBUANOS dominated the inaugural Cebu Epic 2018 over the weekend in Wily’s Store in Barangay Busay.

Taking the top honors were Dongkey Sanchez and Emmanuel Pedroza, who won the Full Epic Category in 6 hours, 6 minutes, 32 seconds.

Cebu-based Team Cube of Gino Basirgo and Roger Niere finished second in 6:39:14, while Cebu Cycling and Bike-holic’s James Kho and Louie Tanggol came in third in 6:56:21.

In the Mini-Epic category, Keith DeFiebre Cycling Team’s Rhyke Armas and Melvin Codoy topped the division after finishing in 3:20:31. Finishing second is Team Lycan’s John Paul Juson and Kyle Valle with a time of 3:47:08, while Ryan Pantoja and Jess Wayne of Team Lazer finished third in 4:18:35.

The race, which aims to showcase Cebu’s scenic mountainside, also doubles as a medical mission for organizers of Team Big Ring Race and Adventure, where they used the proceeds for an Operation Tuli project.

More than 160 riders from 80 teams took part in the race that attracted participants from Bohol, Surigao, Negros, and Davao.

The event, which took four years to plan, was a team competition and had racers navigate a 100-kilometer technical course.

Teams were given eight hours to complete the race.

Although the race encountered some hitches, it still succeeded.

Organizer Chyrel Gomez said they are planning to bring back the Bugoy Reloaded, which is a cross-country race, within the year. (Minsey Lumangyao, CNU Intern)
