Taiwanese tour guide, Filipino ‘drug courier’ caught in Sta. Cruz

A TAIWANESE national who reportedly worked as a tourist guide was arrested for allegedly hiring a Filipino courier to buy drugs for his clients in Barangay Sta. Cruz yesterday afternoon.

Atty. Maria Theresa Macatangay, chief of the Fuente Police Station, said they had placed Chien-Lung Tseng, 49, under surveillance for months but couldn’t arrest him right away since he was often out.

Tseng was ushered outside Macatangay’s office after shouting that he didn’t own the illegal drugs. “Those are not mine! Those are not mine!” he cried.

Also arrested was his alleged courier, Jimmy Gallardo Jr., 29, after an illegal drug transaction in Tseng’s apartment. Tseng allegedly contacted Gallardo thrice a month so that the latter could get drugs from his source in Barangay Duljo-Fatima. He has reportedly lived in Cebu for 10 years.

“This was not the first time that he hired me to get shabu worth P2,000. I needed the money because I’m only a habal-habal driver,” Gallardo admitted. More than P90,000 worth of illegal drugs and around P30,000 cash were recovered from them, police said. (JOB)
