Oro SK Federation has new chief

THE newly-elected president of Cagayan de Oro Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation on Wednesday, June 16, has vowed to raise the awareness of the illegal drugs among the youth by turning their focus to sports programs.

A fresh graduate of Cagayan de Oro College's Criminology program, Barangay 32's John Michael Seno said he plans to support the City Government's campaign on illegal drugs by organizing the youth and conduct symposiums on the effects of illegal drugs.

"The youth has so much energy and this should be focused to more positive things like sports, so we plan to initiate a Palarong Pambarangay for every sports that the youth wants to play," Seno said.

On Wednesday, June 13, 23-year-old Seno beat Barangay Puntod's Dana Villoso who only garnered 33 votes compared to Seno's 41 votes.

Elected as SK Federation vice-president was Chuck Yanez of Barangay Balulang; Sassy Martil of Barangay Tablon as Secretary; Barangay Gusa's Herbe Blanela as Treasurer; Barangay 19's Cary Echem as the Auditor; Barangay Tagpangi's Zhang Mendoza as the Public Relations Officer; and Barangay 14's Clark Tejada as the Sergeant at Arms.

By virtue of the Oro Youth Code, the SK Federation president and vice president will sit as chairperson and vice-chairperson respectively of the Oro Youth Development Council.

Meanwhile, only a total of 74 out of the 80 SK chairpersons were able to vote during the SK Federation election.

It can be recalled that 5 of the elected SK chairpersons were suspended for being either overage or underage.

The Commission on Elections, meanwhile, on Thursday, June 14, clarified that the winning candidates in the recently concluded May 14 barangay and SK elections who had pending petitions for disqualification or petitions for cancellation of certificate of candidacy filed against them will not be allowed to hold office.
