THE Zamboanga City local government, through the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR), will spearhead a tree-planting activity on June 25 in celebration of the Philippine Arbor Day.
Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, who will lead the activity, said the Arbor Day observance will kick off with a program at 7 a.m. with the participation of different agencies of government and multi-sectoral organizations and institutions.
The tree-planting will be held in the Pasonanca Natural Park Watershed Area, specifically at Sitio Murok.
The annual activity, also dubbed as Arbor Day na Ciudad de Zamboanga, aims to promote a healthier ecosystem and encourage tree planting for the protection, preservation, and conservation of the environment.
In Zamboanga City, City Ordinance 281 declares June 25 of every year as Arbor Day na Ciudad de Zamboanga and provides for the active public participation in the tree planting activities. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
