EMB 7 to help 8 LGUs in region rehabilitate their dump sites

EIGHT local government units (LGUs) will receive financial assistance from the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) 7 to shut down their open dump sites.

According to EMB 7 Director William Cuñado, they assessed the dump sites in Carmen, Madridejos, Sta. Fe, Medellin, San Remigio in Cebu; Larena and San Juan in Siquijor; and Tagbilaran in Bohol and recommended that these be closed.

The agency will give Carmen, Madridejos, Sta. Fe, Medellin and San Remigio P940,000 each. San Juan will receive P1.2 million, while Larena will get P1.6 million.

Tagbilaran will get P7.1 million.

Carmen and Tagbilaran have already submitted their requirements, while Madridejos, San Remigio, Medellin, Larena and Sta. Fe still need to come up with a resolution that will oversee the implementation of the shutdown.

Sta. Fe, though, has no tax declaration, among others. Cuñado added that the budget they will give the LGUs will be for their dump sites’ rehabilitation in the next 10 years. (HBL)
