AT LEAST 35 families from the City of San Fernando were displaced due to continuous rains brought about by Typhoon Domeng and the southwest monsoon in the country for over a week now.

Raymond Del Rosario, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) head, said the affected families were evacuated from their houses to ensure their safety as the southwest monsoon continues to bring heavy rains.

Among the evacuated residents were 16 families whose houses were swept away on June 8 by a sudden gush of water which caused soil erosion in Pulung Bulu creekside where their houses were situated, Del Rosario said.

Del Rosario said that six houses were totally washed out by the said erosion, while ten of them were partially destroyed, but were already declared as unsafe and hazardous for occupancy.

“As of now, we have conducted pre-emptive evacuation in the 35 affected families but only nine of them, or about 48 individuals are currently staying at the Camp Center in Barangay Pulung Bulu while other affected families preferred to stay with relatives,” Del Rosario told Sun.Star Pampanga.

To help the evacuees in the Camp Center, Del Rosario said that the city government led by Mayor Edwin Santiago distributed food packs, financial aid and school supplies yesterday morning.

Likewise, Del Rosario said that Santiago also ordered the installation of collapsible partitions in the Camp Center to ensure the safety and comfort of the evacuees.

Furthermore, Del Rosario said that Santiago individually checked on the situation and condition of the families to see if there is any other assistance that can be extended to them by the city government.

Meanwhile, Del Rosario said that CDRRMO did not record any major flooding in the city, and all the main highways are still passable to all types of vehicles as of press time.
