Cebu’s stories to tell

STORY Nights: Cebu is the local chapter of an international storytelling club and live event series dedicated to inspiring, healing, transforming and entertaining people through the art of storytelling. Last June 8, it had its premiere event at Degree 9 Coffee from 8:30 to 10 p.m.

Featured storytellers were Leon Quimpo (business coach), Nym Dayday (‘fool-time’ mother and blogger), Dave Visaya (podcast engineer), Myk Sanchez (architect), Carla Adlawan (copywriter), Alem Garcia (genderqueer) and Ara Chawdhury (filmmaker).

From its humble beginning in October 2015 in Bratislava (Slovakia), the Story Nights network has been growing steadily and having events in Bratislava, Vienna (Austria), Budapest (Hungary), Chandigarh (India), Manila (Philippines) and Cebu (Philippines). Story Nights: Cebu is founded by Rachel Arandilla, founder of events and content agency Tribes PH. Cebu’s sister chapter Story Nights Manila is founded by Italian expat Fabio Aromatici, also founder of Secret Manila, and Karl Alexis Jingco, founder of One and a Half Man Improv.

Story Nights is a once-a-month event and intends to organize the event across different venues and establishments in Cebu. At Story Nights people get together for a magical evening of true personal stories which are told live by people from all walks of life! Anyone can be a storyteller. Anyone who wants to share a story can do so for five to seven minutes and tell true tales about life, experiences, passion, goals, taboos, cultures, romance, adversity etc. The next event is on July 3 with the theme “Oh, the places you’ll go!” (like the Dr. Seuss book).

Admission is free but a kind donation will help the program shoulder the cost of running the event. For interested storytellers, email storynightscebu@gmail.com. (PR)
