AROUND 5,000 people attended the centralized worship for the Eid’l Fitr celebration held at Tionko Football Field, Ecoland in Davao City on Friday, June 15.
Sheik Nasser Datumanong, general manager of Mercy Islamic Foundation, said in his sermon that there is no big sin in the face of Allah and reminded his fellow Muslims to be respectful of one another and follow the teachings of Islam.
Datumanong was among the speakers before the crowd of thousands who marked the end of the Ramadan fasting.
Ramadan is the month when Muslims fast and try to perform good deeds.
“Nais po sana naming sa selebrasyon na ito na lalo pang mapaigting ang mga magandang relasyon ng mga Muslim sa lahat ng parte ng mundo sa lahat ng mga Muslim especially dito sa Pilipinas na magkaisa lahat ng mga Muslim na magkaroon sila ng isang puso na nakakaramdam ng saya, nakakaramdam ng lungkot na maging malakas ang kapatiran,” Datumanong said.
He also added that through this Eid celebration, he hopes peace will be felt by everyone, Muslim or not.
Datumanong expressed thanks to the local government of Davao City for accommodating the Muslims and for being partners in securing the Tionko Field for morning worship.
Deputy Mayor of Maranao Tribe, Randy Usman, who are among the attendees yesterday, said the end of the Ramadan means application of all the learning and teaching of Islam and to sustain it on their lives.
He said the recent demolition at the Salmonan, Quezon Boulevard, happened prior to Ramadan and the displaced Muslim families showed the resiliency of the Muslims.
“That was the challenge of the Muslims of Davao, wherein whatever the challenges may be, there is the faith that they give to Allah, all of it (challenges) came from him,” he said.
Aside from locals of Davao City, the gathering yesterday was comprised of people of various nationalities, including Indians who are living in the city.
