Choice entrees for the head of the house

WHAT can a housewife offer for the man of the house, breadwinner and all supportive father on Father’s Day? Nelia G. Neri, nutritionist (yes, she is) suggests several meat dishes, served at home or in restaurants, that would make most fathers happy.

She suggests native chicken inasal—perhaps all the way from Dumanjug?—because it is low-fat, perfect for the likes of radiologist Dr. Warfe Engracia, who has lately been extra careful about his diet. The chicken is perfect with a side dish of local achara (green papaya relish).

Then there is Cebu lechon, of course, which makes any family gathering festive, ideal for business executive Stanley Go, who makes it a point to be with his young family on no-work days “to create memories” of their togetherness. Suggested side dish for the lechon would be banana heart salad, with ice cream to top off the hearty meal.

For very busy workaholic, local shipping magnate Chester Cokaliong, Neri suggests time off from all that work with his ships for a treat in Movenpick’s Ibiza Beach Club for its Angus rib-eye steak or its charcuterie. A vegetable salad would be good with either of these, as well as Manny O’s red wine, Sumiller.

There are many dishes out there that would be good to serve a father on his special day. It will not matter to the man of the house whether the meal will only be from a barbecue vendor outside or some fancy dish from a fancy restaurant as the whole point of the celebration is for him to be remembered and to feel the love of his family on Father’s Day.
