Volunteers set up donations, sale

TO GATHER campaign funds for the Liberal Party’s standard-bearers, the Noynoy Aquino-Mar Roxas Volunteers Cebu (NMVC) hosted a fundraising dinner at the JSU-PSU Mariners Court, Cebu City Friday night.

Donation boxes were set up and Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III memorabilia, tokens, pins, lanyards and shirts with prices from P25 to P250 were sold.

Members and volunteers also set up a photo booth and sold 5R photos for P100.

Senator Aquino, who graced the affair after attending the presidential aspirants’ forum at the Cebu International Convention Center, said that although he was not able to prepare enough money for his presidential bid, he is pleased to have his supporters.

“I should have tons and tons of money. I should have prepared this decades ago…But I did not. I am very fortunate to have you as my allies, and with your support and backing we will be victorious,” he said.

Aquino, who declared his 2010 presidential bid last September, exactly 40 days after the death of his mother, former president Corazon “Cory” Aquino, said he was prompted to run because of the clamor of the Filipinos.

For now, however, NMVC needs money for daily activities. It is conducting a voter education campaign and recruiting volunteers in Cebu.

While vice presidential candidate Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas III was not around, his supporters attended the dinner along with several business leaders.
