Nalzaro: Suffering from Alzheimer’s or ungrateful?

IS the “former political has-been” suffering from Alzheimer’s disease? Or is the medicine he is taking for his stage 4 urinary bladder cancer affecting him. Maybe he is just ungrateful. I say this because it seems he has short memory. He now forgot some people who helped him in the past.

Consider this. He now disowns Mabolo barangay captain-elect Niña Ompoc-Mabatid following reports she is interested to run for the presidency of the Association of Barangay Council (ABC) in the city. The “former political has-been” has announced that he expelled Mabatid from the Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK).

Niña, a successful businesswoman, helped him in the past elections. She contributed to the BOPK’s campaign kitty. Her contribution, though, may not be as big as that of Kasambagan barangay captain-elect Franklin Ong, who is also a businessman. Ong has gotten a “refund,” however, through his multi-million-peso contracts with City Hall under this administration. Niña never entered into contracts with City Hall.

When the “former political has-been” was down and out after losing to”’has-been” mayor Mike Rama in the 2013 elections, Niña was there to encourage him by inviting him to parties and socials. Every time there were activities in Niña’s company, Pinoy Care Visa, he was her honored guest.

During the barangay elections, it was him who prodded and urged Niña to run. As a friend, Niña conceded. But during the campaign period, Niña was shocked because her “true friend” and “mentor,” endorsed her opponent. The poor lady fell into his trap. Now he is saying, “I don’t know her. The name sounds unfamiliar.” Unfamiliar sa iyang kagaral.

Remember lawyer Reymelio Delute, who administratively charged Rama and members of the city council for passing an appropriation for calamity assistance for City Hall officials and employees after the 7.2 magnitude earthquake and typhoon Yolanda. They ended up being suspended because of the case.

It was the “former political has-been” who asked Delute to file the case before the Department of Interior and Local Governments. But when Delute ran for barangay captain in Basak San Nicolas, he disowned the lawyer saying he is not with the BOPK. He even accused Delute of “extorting” money from the urban poor.

Douglas Labra, the coordinator of the V-hire terminal in Kamagayan which is located in a lot owned by the city government, is a loyal BOPK supporter. He is the manufacturer and distributor of “BOPK” butane products. Just because Labra did not allow the barangay mayor’s office (BMO) vehicles to park in the terminal, the “former political has-been” now wants to close the terminal.

Worse was the case of former city councilor Gabby Leyson, who took care of him when he arrived here from the US with nothing. Few years ago, when Miguel, the son of the “former political has-been,” got married to Bea Villegas in Tanjay City, Gabby was there to attend the wedding ceremony upon the invitation of the bride’s family. When the “former political has-been” saw Gabby, he asked him: “Why are you here?”
