SIMULTANEOUS earthquake drills will be conducted at the Bacolod City Government Center and 69 public elementary and secondary schools in this city today, June 21 at exactly 2 p.m.
Also joining the quarterly shake drill are the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bacolod District Engineering Office and SM City Bacolod.
The Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) said this is part of the second Quarter of 2018 National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED).
The Bacolod City Government Center is identified as a ceremonial venue by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Western Visayas.
All city officials, employees, visitors, and clientele of the Bacolod City Government Center are enjoined to participate in the drill.
OCD-Western Visayas officer-in-charge Ma. Aletha Nogra and Regional Earthquake Drill Evaluators will assess the drill.
The DRRMO said the drill aims to evaluate and test the plans and policies in respective localities, test the coordination and communication during operation, and understand the mechanism in emergency and disaster operations.
The conduct of the earthquake drills is in line with promoting disaster preparedness through public participation as mandated under Republic Act 10121 or the “Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act.” (PR)
