SM joins nationwide earthquake drill

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- SM malls in Pampanga joined the nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill (NSED), a quarterly event led by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

The drill seeks to educate the public about preparedness during disasters like earthquakes and showcases government capability on disaster response.

SM malls in Pampanga and San Fernando Downtown held simulations on earthquake and evacuation participated by employees, tenants and staff.

This is in line with the mall’s continuous promotion in providing education and awareness to its front liners and partners on these natural and/or man-made catastrophe.

Under the program, SM regularly conducts seminars on safety and evacuation.

In SM Pampanga, a total of 1,121 participants including customers, tenants/affiliates, business process outsourcing and SM employees and agencies participated in the drill.

Local government partners present are Bureau of Fire Protection Mexico (BFP) headed by Senior Inspector Josie Lising, BFP City of San Fernando Chief Inspector Roderick Marquez; Philippine National Police (PNP) City of San Fernando Chief of Police Rolan Agohob; Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) head Marku Antonio assisted the mall executives and employees during the drill.

Over the past eight years, the BFP and PNP have been conducting training on earthquake and fire simulation in SM Pampanga and Barangay Masamat headed by Captain Ryan David.

SM Savemore Market Apalit also holds seminar on its tenants on the proper Dock, Cover and Hold position in times of earthquake and evacuation.
