No drowning incidents on San Juan Feast

THERE were no drowning incidents reported in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental during the celebration of the Feast of St. John the Baptist on June 24, said Lieutenant Senior Grade Jimmy Oliver Vingno, head of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Station-Bacolod.

Vingno, however, clarified that the drowning incident in Pontevedra town is not related to the feast because the victim identified as Rodolfo Gonzaga, 71, of Barangay Antipolo, drowned at a beach resort in Barangay Miranda because he had hypertension when he went swimming.

Meanwhile, Executive Assistant Jomarie Vargas, cluster head of City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), said the celebration of San Juan feast in Bacolod City is peaceful, with no significant incidents happened.

As this developed, Vingno said such is attributed to the awareness campaign of the authorities to the public.

Deployment of many personnel in coastal areas and beach resorts in coordination with police and other volunteer rescue units also contributed to the peaceful and orderly celebration of the festivity. (GYM)
