MORE than 100 senior high school students of Sofronio Carmona National High School at Barangay Igmayaan in Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental are temporarily holding classes at the two-storey municipal tourism office since Monday, June 25, following the reported hyperventilation syndrome attack to some 23 students.
Rodel Pamini, officer-in-charge of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), yesterday, June 25, said that Mayor Lawrence Marxlen Dela Cruz decided to allow the students to temporarily occupy the building to address the school’s problem on overcrowded classrooms.
Ideally, each classroom should only have 40 students but the school exceeded the standard with 60 to 75 students per classroom.
The remaining students from Grade 7 to 10 are occupying the classrooms at the existing school building, Pamini said, adding that there is already no overcrowded in each classroom.
Pamini said senior high students will return to the school once the additional classrooms of the new school building will be finished.
"In fact, it is almost complete," he added.

Representatives from the Department of Education (DepEd) also visited the school to check the current situation of the students.
"The situation at the school is now normal and teachers are already holding regular classes," he added.
