De Niro to get star on Walk of Fame

SURPRISE! Apparently Robert De Niro still doesn’t have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame even after a career spanning over five decades, two Oscar awards and seven nominations.

De Niro is among the newest group of celebrities who will be honored by a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Walk of Fame selection committee on Monday announced the class of 2019, which also includes De Niro’s “The Intern” co-star Anne Hathaway.

“Murphy Brown” star Candice Bergen, chef Guy Fieri and Alvin and The Chipmunks were among those selected for their work in television.

Pink, Michael Buble and Faith Hill were some of the music honorees.

Idina Menzel, Cedric “The Entertainer,” Judith Light and Paul Sorvino were picked for their work in live theater and performance.

No dates have been scheduled for the star ceremonies, which require a sponsor to pay $40,000 to the chamber of commerce’s charitable trust.

To be fair, getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is not about being the most successful celebrity or the most senior in the industry. The artist needs to be nominated under any of these categories: radio, motion pictures, live performance/theater, television and recording. Anyone can nominate, including a fan. And as mentioned, the sponsor should pay the fee.

A Walk of Fame Committee will then select a handful of personalities every year to get the star. (AP with JGA)
