Flower vendors to move out of public plaza

THE Bacolod City Council approved a resolution requesting City Mayor Evelio Leonardia through the City Legal Office-Enforcement Team to implement the relocation of flower vendors from Bacolod public plaza to the designated site behind the Bacolod Arts and Youth Sports (BAYS) center.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Em Ang, was approved during the regular session Wednesday, June 27.

Ang, chairperson of the City Council committee on tourism, said there is a need to relocate the flower vendors in order to allow the full implementation of the rehabilitation, improvement and beautification of the public plaza pursuant to the plans designed by the City Engineer's Office.

She said an endorsement letter was submitted to the City Legal Office on June 22.

Last year, the City Government planned to transfer the flower vendors to the Vendors Plaza at the Reclamation Area which was also opposed by the majority of the flower vendors.

Most of the flower vendors were worried that if they will be transferred to the Vendors Plaza, their income will decrease since the area is not suitable for flowers because of the condition of the building.

They said that in the previous years, the City Government offered to rehabilitate their area, but it did not push through. (MAP/SunStar Bacolod)
